What IS The Ultimate Prize, you ask. And while we are on the subject, why do we call ourselves Worthy of the Prize?!!?
In 1 Corinthians 9:24, Paul writes...In a race, all the runners run, but only one gets the prize. Run in such a way as to get the prize.
He is saying that in every competition in life...whether it be sports, business, school or anything else...there is only 1 true winner. This is the person who receives the prize, whether it be a trophy, a medal, money, fame, fortune or some kind of recognition.
More importantly, Paul is saying that no matter if you ARE the winner, the one who wins the prize, or NOT...you should compete in such a way that when the competition is over, you are found worthy of the prize. By the way, He is not simply referring to what you do during the competition, but in all the training and the other events leading up to the competion, as well as how you react to the results.
He goes on to write in 1 Corinthians 9:25, Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
When Paul refers to a crown that will not last, he is talking about an earthly crown, like the ones that I listed above, the prizes that competition winners receive. However, when he refers to a crown that will last forever, he means the prize of life, The Ultimate Prize.
This is the part that I do NOT want you to miss.
The Ultimate Prize, the prize of life, the only thing you can take with you when you leave this earth IS...a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the promise of eternal life in Heaven with Him.
Do you have this?!!?
Our goal here at Worthy of the Prize is to not only train you to be worthy of the earthly prizes, but more importantly, to make sure you are worthy of the ultimate prize, a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and the promise of eternal life in Heaven with Him!
