FEELINGS ARE MUCH LIKE WAVES, WE CAN'T STOP THEM FROM COMING BUT WE CAN CHOOSE WHICH ONES WE SURF!
Feelings come and go based on our circumstances, our mood, our attitude, as well as other peoples' attitudes. So many people choose to live a life that is run by their feelings. Have you ever had that moment where you said to yourself "What was I thinking!?!"
We live in a world that tells us to:
"FOLLOW OUR HEART" , "CREATE YOURSELF" , "YOU DESERVE THE BEST"
As we let these worldly "mottos" permeate into our minds and our hearts we open doorways for our feelings to attack us. We soon can become our own worst enemy. How often do we "FEEL" like eating healthy? Working out? Submitting to our husband? Putting others first? Forgiving one more time?
We will experience different kinds of feelings all day long. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. You cannot control the feelings and thoughts that may cross your mind, but at that moment you do have a choice whether to dwell on them!
The bible is very clear that we must have a game plan with how to deal with our thoughts and feelings.
"So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace." Romans 8:6 NLT
"...take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5
Are you currently entertaining thoughts and feelings in your mind that you know go against God's word? Are you an emotional roller coaster where often times the people around you never know what kind of mood you are going to be in? How about those "everything is meaningless" moments?
This is your SINFUL NATURE trying to rob you from God's best for your life. Stop, Pray , and Seek God through his word. He will meet you right where you are, and guide you along a straight path as he protects you not only from your circumstances, but from yourself. There are times when you absolutely should not trust yourself or lean on your own understanding!
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight!" Proverbs 3:5
As you go through the process of trusting, God will correct your heart. There is Power in the Process. God is refining you and getting you to a point in your life where you will fulfill your potential!!
"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender responsive heart." Ezekiel 36:26

That is such a great analogy ... using waves and feelings and choosing which ones to ride on! So often I try to be the daredevil and catch the biggest swiftest wave and then get tossed off my board into the undertow . . . But God always has my back . . . my battered and beaten back (figurative only). Great job on your first post Tosha!
