25 Names of Jesus: {Day 3} Ancient of Days

“As I watched, the horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them, until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom.” Daniel 7:21-22

Ancient of Days literally means, "before days were." It is referring to the fact that God existed before time began. It is overwhelming to think that He "always was," but the Bible tells us that He is the one who created time, days and nights (Genesis 1:14) in the beginning.

The above passage from Daniel is specifically referring to Jesus as the Ancient of Days, the one who will return to judge the world in the end-times. His existence as the Ancient of Days is confirmed in John 1:1 where it tells us that Jesus was with God, in the beginning.

And even though it is hard for my mind to wrap itself around the concept that Jesus always has been and always will be, it is comforting to know that He was there in the beginning and that He will be there in the end. He is in complete control of all things and we never have to live a day without Him.

I hope you are having fun hanging your 25 Names of Jesus advent ornaments and discussing His names with your family! Go here to read the other posts in this series and to download the free printable ornaments if you want to follow along as we countdown to Christmas!
