“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the
Beginning and the End.” Revelation 22:13
When I think of Jesus being the Alpha and the Omega, I usually think of the fact that Jesus was, and is, and is to come (Revelation 1:8). That He was there in the beginning (John 1:1) and that He will be there in the end, when the final battle has been won. He has been and always will be.
And these are accurate thoughts. But what I have never really considered before is that Jesus is also the Alpha and Omega in relation to His redemptive work on the cross. He came to earth, lived a perfect life, died on the cross and rose from the grave, conquering death and hell, once and for all. Period. The end. It is finished. (John 19:30)
Nothing needs to be added to or taken away from what He did. His sacrifice on the cross is the only sacrifice that we have ever needed and/or will ever need. And if you ever encounter a person (or an organization) that tries to add to or take away from the gospel message of Jesus Christ, I suggest you run the other way! :) Or perhaps, politely let them know that Jesus is the Beginning and the End concerning God's redemption plan.
