{My Favorite Things Holiday Gift Guide}: 12 Christmas Gifts That Give Back

I love the fact that there are so many shops out there that not only have fabulous products, but more importantly, give back to fabulous causes!

Why not give a gift that "gives back" this Christmas? We spend SO much money on Christmas gifts for the special people on our list, why not spend it on products that we know all (or a portion) of the proceeds are going to support great causes and fantastic ministries? It's a win-win!

I have put together a list of 12 products/shops that I happen to LOVE and know are giving back! May it help you finish your Christmas shopping for the year and bring joy to both the giver and the receiver!

1. Compassion International is a wonderful ministry, one that happens to be near and dear to my heart since we sponsor a little boy who lives in an AIDS infected area of Uganda through their ministry. Compassion has a great little online shop filled with various items (apparel, accessories, books, resources for families and churches, etc) that would make great Christmas gifts. I absolutely love this cycling jersey! Or you could simply sponsor a child in someone's honor. What a meaningful gift that would be, to know that a child is receiving food, water, shelter, clothing, an education and most importantly, hearing the hope and love of Jesus because of you! Here is a list of the precious children who are waiting for sponsorships!

2. Noonday Collection provides a pathway out of poverty for artisans around the world through the sale of their fashionable jewelry, handbags, home decor and accessories. Proceeds also help place orphans in forever families. Check out their site here to find the perfect gift for that special someone on your list!
3. Here at Worthy of the Prize we carry (evangelistic) soccer balls and basketballs for the little guy or gal on your list. And the best part is that for each ball purchased, we send a ball to a child in an orphanage or poor village around the world, through our brand new partnership with J316 Ministries! This child will not only enjoy the pleasure of a fun, healthy activity, but will also hear the gospel message of salvation through Christ alone when the ball is delivered to them and presented using the color code on the ball to tell "The Greatest Story Ever Told!" You can purchase a ball here in our shop.

4. Sew.Hip.Mama sells fashionable handbags, headbands, apparel and accessories, including custom orders. All proceeds go to fantastic organizations who are fighting against sex trafficking around the world! Contact Kara here to place an order or check out her Facebook page to see what is ready for purchase.

5. Three Six Tees exists to connect people who have a passion to turn the world around with charities that already are. Proceeds from each one of their fashionable tees goes to help one of 6 worthy causes around the world: planting trees, providing clean water, funding education, providing vaccinations, feeding the hungry and providing shoes for children who do not have any (just like TOMS does when you purchase a pair of their shoes). Shop their fabulous collection here

6. Here at Worthy of the Prize, we also sell Chosen Child Adoption Bands {wristlet keychains} through our Chosen Child Adoption Ministry, to help adopting families raise the money they need to bring their child home! These make great Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers for moms, teachers, college students, runners and all those who have their hands full or have to carry their keys with them. The keychains come in a variety of colors and all proceeds go to support our adopting families! Purchase yours here

7. Cap Creations also sells a Chosen Necklace to support our Chosen Child Adoption Ministry! Each one can be customized with a name and $10 from every purchase goes to our adopting families! This would a make a beautiful Christmas gift for anyone on your list, whether representing an adopted child or the fact that we are all "chosen" in Christ! Find them here in Cat's shop.

8. Scripture Art carries a variety of fabulous peel and stick products including wall decals, chore charts, calendars, growth charts, menu planners and potty charts with scripture on them to transform your life and walls. They also offer promise packs, fashionable tees, and phone/laptop covers. All of their products are stylish and decorated with scripture. 10% of all proceeds go to help stop sex trafficking! Shop their online store here.

9. The Mercy House is a wonderful ministry that provides alternative options for pregnant girls living in the streets of Kenya, aiding them in education, nutrition, housing, prenatal care, Bible study, counseling and job skills for sustainable living. They have a shop full of fabulous products, made by the very women of The Mercy House, to help fund this ministry! Shop here to support this worthy cause.

10. Here at Worthy of the Prize, we also support The Mercy House through the sale of our Victorious Virtues Prayer Cards, which also come in pink! Because of your purchases, every mom living in The Mercy House receives a set of these cards, allowing them to pray the Biblical virtues scriptures over themselves and their child through the guided prayers! There is nothing sweeter than praying for your newborn child and it is my desire to encourage these women who have chosen life for their child! Our prayer cards make great Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers, particularly for young moms and new grandmas. Or even for adopting moms who are waiting to bring their child home. What an encouragement it would be for them to be able to pray over their child while they wait for them to come home to their forever family! Pair them with our Chosen Child Adoption Band {wristlet keychain}, allowing women to carry their cards with them as they travel, walk the neighborhood, run errands around town or as they sit in the carpool line, at their desk at work or at the doctor's office and you will be supporting two great causes simultaneously! Shop our cards here

11. Show Hope carries these adorable little handmade Hope Dolls from Baby be Blessed, who carries a variety of beautiful, handmade scripture dolls. Each doll  has Romans 15:13 stitched onto it and all proceeds go to fund their ministry of caring for orphans and funding adoptions. Boy dolls are also available and they have other fabulous products for adults and kids in their online shop as well, including fashionable apparel and accessories. Shop their online store here. If you would rather, you can simply become a sponsor in someone's honor. What a great gift to know that orphans are being cared for and adoptions are being funded in your name! Become a sponsor here.

12. Wild Olive Tees carries a large variety of fashionable Christian tees for adults and kids. And the best part is that 10% of all proceeds go to organizations that support adoption and orphan care! Shop their fabulous tees here.

These are a few of my favorite things, but I know there are more fabulous shops out there with a mission! Feel free to leave comments with the links to other shops who sell to "give back!"

Give a gift that gives back this Christmas and bring even more joy to this wondrous holiday!

11 Orphans Rescued in 2011...WE GOTCHA!!!

We are so honored. humbled. privileged. that God allows us to play a small part in helping adopting families raise the money that they need to bring their children home!

For those who are new around here, we support adopting families through our {Chosen Child} Adoption Ministry - giving them the entire proceeds from all {Chosen Child} fit bands and half loops that are sold during their designated fundraising month.

We partner with Cap Creations, who donates $10 from every Chosen Necklace sold, to our adopting families during their designated month of fundraising. You can read more about the program here.

In 2011 alone, we helped bring 11 children home to their forever families!!!

Sing to God, sing praise to His name, extol Him who rides on the clouds---His name is the Lord---and rejoice before Him. A father to the fatherless, a defender of the widows, is God in His holy dwelling! {Psalm 68:4-5}

Ken and Sarah Lovett, who are the reason we began this adoption ministry, brought their son home from the Ukraine last spring!

Jeff, Amber, Carson and Kolby brought home Baby Adelyn on June 22nd!

She was 10 months old when we brought her home at the end of June.  Being a teacher, I actually got the call on the last day of school that all of her documents were set and she was ready to go home.  I remember jumping up an down and screaming with tears running down my face!  Everyone was so happy for us!  We traveled to Korea one week later and spent 7 days experiencing the culture and the beautiful country.  It was the most incredible experience of my life!!
I will never forget seeing her on her foster mother's back for the first time.  I just started crying immediately.  She wasn't too sure of us for the first 45 minutes, but then my husband be-friended her with Gerber puffs and soon she was sitting in his lap!  She has had Daddy wrapped around her finger ever since!  In fact, she has pretty much everyone wrapped around her finger. Her Gotcha Day was June 22- the day they put her in our arms forever!  She laid her head on Jeff's shoulder like she just knew we were Mommy and Daddy!  We landed in the USA two days later and she met her brothers for the first time who immediately fell in love with her too!  She is such a happy, outgoing little girl.  She is always smiling and laughing and its just so contagious!  Everyone who meets her falls in love with her.  She is such a blessing to us.  Some people say that she is so lucky to have us as her family, but we think its the other way around... we are so so so lucky to have her.  I feel like she has been with us forever!  I can't imagine my family any more perfect than what it is now.  To God be all the glory!!

Read the rest of her story here.

Baby Helen Hope came home on June 27th! Watch the beautiful, moving slideshow here.

The Hartmans rescued Judd from a mental institution in Eastern Europe in June!

Judd was put in an institution because he had down syndrome - he is lucky to be alive! His story will be featured in our upcoming ebook, "Find Joy in the Journey," which will debut Summer 2012, so stay tuned for more details. There are many more who need to be rescued as well and as a result, Melanie has started an online shop to support missionaries who are committed to meeting the needs of the boys in the institution and more importantly, sharing the gospel message of salvation through Christ alone with them. Please consider supporting this ministry by donating to or purchasing products in The Lost Boys Boutique.

Megan and Nat brought their baby girl home on July 2nd!

In February, we received the referral for a precious little girl - only 6 pounds and two months of age.  We were instantly smitten...now if only we could get her home.  We finally traveled in May for our first trip to Ethiopia.  We had the amazing opportunity to meet our daughter for the first time, and spent every possible moment at the orphanage with her!  It was an amazing experience...but the miraculous moment came when we went to our court appointment with the Ethiopian courts and PASSED....the first time!  We considered her our daughter from the first time we saw her face...but now we were LEGALLY a family of four!  We left Ethiopia a short week later with a heavy heart and prayed that we would make our second journey SOON.  5 miserable weeks later we were on our way to BRING HER HOME.  We were united on June 26th and July 2nd, 2011...family and friends joined us at the airport to help us welcome home our precious daughter!  She has now been home for 4 1/2 months and is 10 months old.  It has been such a joy to watch her break out of her shell!  She has the most vivacious and contagious personality and is SUCH a joy!  Her older brother is in love with her too...we are so thrilled to see their bond already.  Thank you everyone for your assistance in fundraising - you have been such a blessing to us!  We thank God every day for our little love.

Feel free to follow our journey and read more about our two trips to Ethiopia here.

Baby Connor came home on July 25th! Read his story here.

This beautiful baby girl was united with her forever family on August 5th!

The Farrells brought their 14 year old daughter home on September 18th!

Twin boys, Kingston and Kyrie, were united with their forever family in November!

The Dears brought their daughter Rae home on December 20th!

Our family has been on an amazing journey to bring home our little girl, Rae.  We started our journey in August of 2010. After many months of filling out paperwork and getting our dossier to China, we were matched with a 6 year old girl named Yang Rui in July 2011.  At the time of her referral she was diagnosed with a blood disorder and strabismus and was living in Sichuan Province.  She was abandoned a few months after the big earthquake at the age of approximately 3. We know nothing about her life before the orphanage.   We were very excited to be finally matched, and after gathering all info about her disorder we happily accepted her and sent in our LOI.

The next part of the waiting was tough, but we received our travel approval to go and get our girl.  We were able to travel to China as family the week before Christmas.  Even though we knew we would be spending Christmas in China, it was very worth it.  Our Gotcha Day was December 19th, and we were excited to finally meet her in person. Her caregivers told us that she showed everyone our pictures we had sent her and loved taking pictures with the camera in her care package.  She was very shy at first, but she eventually warmed up to us.  When it was time to leave, she realized her nanny had already left.  She was very sad to say the least.  For the next several hours, she majorly grieved.  There was a lot of crying and screaming and wanting her nanny.  We knew about this phase, but it was very tough to watch. Noel had gone out to McDonald’s for dinner because we knew there was no going out together.  We tried and tried to get her to eat, and then finally she started eating the FRIES! The fries magically stopped the crying and she was happier and smiling.  We also found out she loved taking pictures with our camera phone.

After learning how to correctly pronounce her Chinese name, we changed her name to the English spelling. On December 20th Yang Rui became, Rae Michelle, a forever member of our family.  She happily placed her handprint on the paperwork. While in China, there was a lot to learn about what she liked and didn’t like.  We had wonderful bonding moments with everyone in our family. We had fun at different museums, parks, and zoos.  Our favorite part may have been seeing the pandas in Chengdu. She was becoming another Dear girl forever cemented in our hearts.

We have been home for a month now, and we cannot imagine our family without this little girl.  She has been a trooper through her dental surgery, blood draws, and other doctor visits.  We are thankful that the hospital provides translators for us to help her understand what is going on.  Rae is learning to say more and more English words and loves to copy her ABCs.  She is great little helper around the house.  We love watching her learn about her new world and see her thriving.  We are looking forward to teaching her more about the love of Jesus, and one day accepting Him as her Savior.  You can read more about our experiences at http://increasingheartandhome.blogspot.com

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will---to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves. {Ephesians 1:3-6}

Our new program kicks off with our first family in April. You can read about the changes here. Please contact Julie at worthyoftheprize.julie@yahoo.com if you need help fundraising for your adoption. We would love to be apart of your journey!

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. {John 14:18}

{Texas Rangers} Fit Band and Half Loop Giveaway + A Brand New Partnership

We are SO pumped that the Texas Rangers are heading to the ALCS {American League Championship Series} and about our brand new partnership with Scripture Art Designs, the company of Josh Hamilton's wife and sister-in-law, that we have designed a brand new fit band {wristlet keychain} and half loop to rally them to victory!

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE IT!!!

We are very partial to the Texas Rangers baseball team around here, and rightly so. Having grown up in Arlington, playing volleyball with some of the players' daughters, there has always been a strong connection to the team. Not to mention the fact that we are a sports-loving family and have spent alot of time together at the ballpark. My boys each went to their first game when they were just a few weeks old. Many great memories have been made there over the years, including the time I got George W's autograph when he owned the team because my dad said, "he might be the governor someday." Ha!

Add that to the fact that Jim Sundberg {VP of the Texas Rangers} wrote the foreword for my book and that I am partnering with Josh Hamilton's {my favorite MLB player} wife and sister-in-law, and there you go....we here at Worthy of the Prize Sports Ministries LOVE THE RANGERS!!

I hope they win it ALL this year! Let's Go Rangers, ALL THE WAY!

If you are a fellow Rangers fan, be sure to check out the cool giveaway on our Worthy of the Prize FB page. Enter for a chance to win one of these cute fit bands and half loops. There is also a special discount code for 15% off your entire order if you would rather just purchase one in our shop.

Contest ends tomorrow, October 7th. Winner will be announced Saturday, October 8th. These bands will only be in the shop through the MLB playoffs so get yours now!

Not a Rangers fan but want a special fit band or half loop with an emblem on it...maybe your company logo or the outline of the country you are adopting from? Let us know and we will design it for you! We are currently working on one for the Special Olympics that I will show you soon.

Go here to see the current {fall} bands in our shop.

And don't forget to check out Scripture Art Designs, their products are awesome; you will not be disappointed. They are just getting started so show them some love by "liking" them on facebook and following them on twitter, letting them know that Worthy of the Prize sent you! You will be hearing more about our partnership in the near future.

Who are you rooting for this season?!

Recently we have had some large Fit Band orders come in, in addition to the "normal" orders that we get for 1 or 2 bands!

-A soccer coach ordered 4 bands to give to her graduating seniors at their soccer banquet

-A volleyball program ordered 100 volleyball bands that they are going to put in the coaches bags for their fall tournaments

-A teacher ordered 12 college bands (in school colors) to give to her graduating seniors

Didn't they turn out cute?!!? (doubles not pictured)

Thursday's Thoughts: Our 1st Fit Card App and Other Exciting News!!

I am simply in awe of the amazing things that God is doing here at WOTP.

All of a sudden we have so many exciting things happening!

First---

We are releasing our 1st droid app tomorrow---it is scheduled to release at 5:00pm (CST)!!!

If you have a droid, make plans to download it!

It is called WOTP-Fit Cards and it includes our Character Counts Devotional Cards which you can read about HERE.

It is so cool because you will be able to download it to your phone and take it anywhere with you!

It even has a "read to me" option that will allow you to plug-in headphones and listen to it while you workout!

I cannot wait!!!!!!

Coaches can use the app to assist them in instilling leadership and character-development in their team.

The app will be available in the Android Market on your phone and also at http://market.android.com/. Search "WOTP."

And the best part is that the app is only $0.99 for the 1st week!

To top it all off, when we publish future card sets, you will be able to add them to the same app!

{And yes, an iphone app is next on my to-do list so if you know of anyone who can create one for us, please send them my way!}

Second---

We have created a special page in our online shop called BRING BRADY HOME.

Remember the little boy with down-syndrome who is in a mental institution in Eastern Europe that I was riding the elliptical for back in February?

Well, he still needs our help and it is urgent!

His forever family is working tirelessly to raise the money they need to rescue their son and bring him home!

As a result, we are going to do a special online fundraiser and ALL PROCEEDS will be donated to the Hartmans so they can BRING BRADY HOME!

Here is how it will work--

Anything that is purchased from the BRING BRADY HOME page in our online shop between Sunday, April 24th {Easter Sunday} and Sunday, May 8th {Mother's Day}, we will donate the ENTIRE PROCEEDS to this sweet family!

ALL PROCEEDS will come out to approximately 1/2 of the sale price of each item on this page. The only money we will keep is that which is needed to cover our costs.

Please please please make plans to buy something from this page during those 2 weeks!

We have lovely ladies tees, toddler tees and baby rompers that will make great Mother's Day, baby shower and birthday gifts---they are perfect for spring/summer as well!

We will also have some of our Fit Bands {Wristlet Keychains} and Fit Cards {prayer, scripture memory and devotional cards that you can clip to your Fit Band if you choose} listed on this page and we may even add products as we go!

Our Fit Bands and Fit Cards also make great gifts especially for moms and teachers!

Do you need an end-of-the-year teacher gift or a special gift for a special mom or mom-to-be in your life?

What about a graduation gift or wedding present?
