Supporting the Henry Family during July and AUGUST!!!

We have decided to extend the July family into AUGUST! All the support we get from our Chosen Child wrist bands will go directly to the Henry family! They have been anxiously waiting for their little boy that they got to host during the month of July! They are preparing more paperwork and their dossier to the country! Lets support the Henry family!

 

Here is a little more about them from Ryan, the Father:

Linda and I have been married for almost 11 years and from the begin we knew that we wanted to have a big family. While struggling with fertility issues we researched into international adoption. We have been blessed to have 3 amazing children Caden who is a sports loving 8 year old, our 6 year old fashion designer Libby, and Lexie our little entertainer who is 4. We learned about New Horizons for children through a friend who had hosted. It is a hosting organization that exists to show the love of Christ to orphans from Latvia, Ukraine, and China. A side benefit to the program is that it exposes these children to families in the United States. We honestly went into to hosting thinking that we would advocate for this child to be adopted. We were open to adoption but it just didn't seem like the "right time". Little did we know that this child was going to change our hearts.

{Hope for the Home} Linky Party: Making JOY Come Alive

He was walking down that long, dusty road from Judea to Galilee. You know the one.

Most would have taken the long way around, avoiding Samaria altogether. It was a dirty place. Filled with ungodliness.  No one wanted to associate with those people. Their very presence could contaminate you.

Coming upon Jacob's Well, he sat down, tired from the journey. When out of nowhere, she shows up, a filthy Samaritan woman. 

I imagine her daily trip to the well was a sort of escape from her life. Anything to avoid the reality of 5 former husbands and now living with a man who was not even her husband.

If only she could meet the right man, her problems would disappear.

Isn't that what we think?

If only I could find a husband...have a baby...get rich...lose weight...land a better job. Get A Drink. Then I would be happy.

Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water that I give him will never thirst. Indeed the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. {John 4:13-14}

What is it that you are waiting on, to be happy?

The woman at the well came in search of water but instead, she found Jesus. Her joy was made complete, despite her circumstances. She immediately ran back to her town, leaving her water jar behind, telling everyone she encountered, "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?" 

And they did. They saw a change in her and as a result, they went to him.

You see, happiness is circumstantial. True joy is found in Christ alone. Will you let him fill you up?

Family Activity for the Week...

I have found that focusing on your blessings and being grateful for what you have, instead of what you don't have, leads to joy. This week I challenge you to read 15 Happy Ways to Joyfilled, Grateful Kids and choose at least one of the activities listed to do together as a family. Be sure to leave us a comment to let us know what you did and how it turned out.

Supporting the Besancon's through June!

We have decided to continue to support the chosen child  Besancon family through the end of June!! We were delighted to hear that the original June family "The Kramel's" received all of their money to bring their child home! Please continue to support the Besancon family during their journey!

We are John, Kelli, Quinn, and Caroline Besancon. John and I have been married for 8 years and have two sweet children: Quinn, an energetic and train-loving little boy who is 3 years old and Caroline, a joyful and sassy little girl who is 1 year old. God has been developing in us a heart for adoption since before we were married and we are now in the process of that journey! After much prayer and research, we feel God is calling us to domestic adoption. We love that we may have the opportunity to be an option for a birth mother to choose life over abortion and that we may have the opportunity to share the gospel with our child's birth family. Just as we are adopted by God through Christ, we are excited to share that love with our future son or daughter. We have been in awe of how God has provided exactly what we need each step of the way through this process already. As we continue to fill out the (never-ending!) paperwork and pray for our future son or daughter and his/her birth mother, we are so thankful for this opportunity to share our story and take part in this fundraiser.

I told you a few weeks ago that we were going to have a Fruits of the Spirit summer series, to help us put one fruit of the spirit into action in our home each week! I wanted to start last week, but our find joy in the journey Ebook finally released and I was preoccupied with that all day!

For now, here is Week 1 of our Fruits of the Spirit summer series, which I posted last year...

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. {Galatians 5:22-23}

I am sure these characteristics are displayed in abundance in your home as they are in mine, right? Ha! I can't even type those words without laughing out loud!

I feel like my 6 and 4 year old boys do nothing but pick at each other these days. We have been in transition for the past few months, yet again, our second cross-country move in less than 2 years and with the unfamiliar surroundings, lack of routine and uncertainty comes two tired, cranky, fussy little boys. 

They have been driving me crazy and because I am tired and cranky myself, I end up snapping at them and the vicious cycle of non-fruit-filled-living continues.

Sound familiar?

Whatever your situation may be, I am sure that you face days where your home is less than an uplifting environment, to say the least.

Am I right?

This summer I am asking the Lord to transform my home into one free from stress, frustration, negativity and all things associated with the sin-filled life and to instead fill it with peace, harmony, love and all things that are a result of Spirit-filled living. Will you take this journey with me?

Are we going to be able to remove all sin from our lives and home? Absolutely not. In fact, once we begin our journey with Christ, we must allow the Spirit to make us more like Him (and less like the world) each and every day, however we will never actually achieve perfection until we are at home with Him in Heaven.

That being said, I feel it is our responsibility to do intentional things in our lives and homes that are God-honoring, in order to promote growth in our walk with Him and to be a living example of Christ to our children.

In fact, Cat of Cap Creations and I have come up with a plan to help us fill our homes with the Fruit of the Spirit this summer!

Every Monday, I will post a lesson on one of the Fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. I will also give you an activity to help you put that particular fruit into action in your home that week.

Meanwhile, Cat has designed a Fruit of the Spirit tree and individual fruits, so that you can display them in your home as a reminder. Click on images to download, when they open right click and save. If you run into any problems downloading them please let her know. The tree is 8x10 and the fruits are 4x6. For our project they both need to be printed on a laser printer, so that the ink will not run. An office store can do this for you.

Go ahead and print your downloads and next week Cat will provide a tutorial showing you how to turn your fruit printables into magnets, so that you can hang your tree on your refrigerator.

If you want to go ahead and gather your supplies for her tutorial, here is a list of things you will need...

- your printed fruit
-large glass pebbles, just over 1 inch (dollar store for a whole bag)
-mod podge (elmer's glue will work too)
-paint brush
-small magnets (craft store or walmart)
-strong glue like E600 to glue on magnets
-a 1 inch circle punch (handy but not necessary)

At some point, she will also show you how to put your tree in a frame or on a wood block, so that it can be moved around your home.

After learning through our I HATE RELIGION series that Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death, I am so excited to begin exploring with you how we can use our freedom to become more like Him, not pursuing a life of sin, but a life filled with His Spirit!

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery....So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. {Galatians 5:1, 16}

Last summer I posted a series every Monday entitled "Making the Fruit of the Spirit Come Alive in Your Home" as part of our {Hope for the Home} series and I thought it would be fun to do it again this summer!

Every Monday, I will post a lesson on one of the Fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. I will also give you an activity to help you put that particular fruit into action in your home that week, using the Fruit of the Spirit Tree designed by Cap Creations specifically for this series.

I will be back next week with more details, but it will be a great way for us to keep Christ the center focus of our homes this summer and will give us something fun and meaningful to do with our children each week while they are home from school!

Supporting the Chosen Child March Family

One of the best things about Worthyoftheprize is the ability to support so many great causes! We are lucky to support the Law family for the Month of March! They need your help! Why we chose adoption: Our simple answer is that God put adoption on our hearts many years ago and through a series of events in our life we believe he is telling us NOW is the time. We believe we have another child out their waiting to call us mommy and daddy or MaMa and BaBa. Through much prayer and research we know Gabi is supposed to be our child and we are so excited to bring her home as quickly as possible. We are rescuing Gabe, we are honoring God, and our faith is growing every day through this journey. Our days are filled with running our children to various activities, volunteering at church, school, and in the community, and doing life with other families at our church through Sunday School and Small Groups. Most recently my husband coached Upwards basketball and I coached cheerleading for our churches Upwards program. Our kids are involved in soccer, basketball, football, cheerleading, gymnastics, and dance. My husband and I also work full-time. We are anxious to bring Gabi home and ask for prayers as our dossier is awaiting approval in China. Our children are so excited to have a new little sister. They draw her pictures and write letters to her. Our daughter has special toys set aside to share with her sister, and says a special prayer for her every night. We are in the home stretch and are hopeful we can bring Gabi home in early June. We have preapproval for a sweet 2 year old little girl we plan on calling Gabi. Gabi has bilateral nerve deafness and has received cochlear implants. We believe she is receiving language training also. Why we chose adoption: Our simple answer is that God put adoption on our hearts many years ago and through a series of events in our life we believe he is telling us NOW is the time. {DIY Valentine Bubbles}: Teaching Your Children to Spread Love

My friend Cat over at Cap Creations posted these adorable valentine bubbles along with the tutorial showing you how to make them a few days ago, and I just think they are fabulous! Don't you love them? How fun!

As you know, I am always looking for new acitivities to do with my boys, to teach them about God, particularly around the holidays, in order to keep the focus on the true reason for the season. I think these not only make a cute Valentine's day activity and gift, but are also a great way to demonstrate to your children (a visual if you will) how we are to spread God's love to the world!

That being said, simply go here for the complete tutorial for making the valentine bubbles. After making them with your children, read to them the following passage of scripture.

³⁴ Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. ³⁵ One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: ³⁶ “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” ³⁷ Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’^[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’^[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Discuss the fact that because God loves us so much and gave everything for us (even His own Son), He desires that we love Him with everything we have. Once we are filled with His love, we will be able to pour out His love on others.

(Blow the bubbles)

Point out the fact that when we blow the bubble wand, the little heart bubbles spread everywhere, landing on whatever is near. In the same way, the love of God within us overflows onto those around us, which is why it is very important for us to always use kind words and actions, taking every opportunity to share God's love with everyone we come in contact with.

"The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks." (Luke 6:45)

Finding Love in Adoption

As many of our followers know, we support a family each month that is going through the adoption process! Last month we had the Bernard Family join us, they shared their story of their precious Katie who they are adopting from China! We decided to extend their month into February!

January Chosen Child Family!

Start off the new year with supporting our newest adoption family THE BERNARD'S!!!! This family is really growing and is getting ready to add one more to their family! Here is a little about the Bernards:

"Paul and Shecki have been parenting a long time, starting with their 7 biological children.  In 2010, they adopted their daughter, Hannah, from China.  They knew before they left that they would be back someday for a Chinese sibling for her.  Now they are paperchasing for Katie, age 2, who shares Hannah's special need of limb differences, and has club foot, as well.  They hope to travel in May or June.

Every year I like to do some sort of Christmas Countdown here on the blog, to help us focus on the true meaning of Christmas, the real reason for the season...Jesus!

I saw a cool idea floating around Pinterest where a family made 25 advent ornaments, each with one of Jesus' names written on it, and every day in December leading up to Christmas, they hung one ornament on their Christmas tree together. You can read about it here.

I thought I would take it one step further and discuss the meaning behind the names, showing where they are found in scripture. “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense – Jesus Christ, The Righteous One.” 1 John 2:1

An advocate is defined as...

noun

1.

a person who speaks or writes in support or defense of a person, cause, etc. (usually followed by of ): an advocate of peace.

2.

a person who pleads for or in behalf of another; intercessor.

3.

a person who pleads the cause of another in a court of law.

And that is exactly what Jesus does for those who are trusting Him for their salvation.  If we have put our faith and trust in Him, then His blood covers our sin and He stands in our defense before God when we sin, rendering a "not guilty" verdict because the punishment for our sin has already been paid in full by Him on the cross. "It is finished." (John 19:30)

You see, when Jesus died on the cross, He took our  my place. He endured the wrath of God, the wrath that we I deserved, so that our  my sins would not be counted against us me and so that we I would not have to spend eternity separated from God when we I die. 

Go here to find out how you can have salvation in Christ too, allowing you to have a personal relationship with God and eternal life in Heaven. And be sure to spend some time today, on this beautiful 1st day of December, thanking Jesus for taking your place and for speaking in your defense!
