Fit Fridays {linky party}: Biking

I am getting back into my health and fitness routine full force these days!
I am eating better and better.

{If I can just keep it under control this week while I am at a resort with my mom and sisters for our annual girls trip!}

I am also getting back into a more consistent workout routine.

Mostly eliptical and bike these days.

Need to work in some free weights again soon.

I have actually been biking 3 times this week already, for a total of around 20 miles or so!

And I am even planning to sign-up for the Titletown Bike Tour in a few weeks!

Wish me luck! ;)

How is your fitness routine going these days?

Fit Fridays {linky party}: Chosen Marathon for Adoption

Are you a runner?

Or an adopting family?

Do you know of any runners or adopting families?

You need to check out the Chosen Marathon for Adoption!

The proceeds of this race go toward orphan care and helping adopting families raise money for their adoptions!

You can even Create A Team and when people register as apart of your team the money goes toward your adoption.

I am SO not a runner {I barely made it through the Africa Hope Run 5K which supports orphans in Malawi} but I MUST find out a way to get involved with this fantastic event!

FITNESS + HELPING ORPHANS = I LOVE IT!

Count me in!!

How can you help?

And since you are here, check out these adorable Fit Bands, Half Loops, Wristlets and Headbands that shipped out this week to be sold at a volleyball camp!

Fit Fridays {linky party}: New Bands

With all the partying going on lately that I told you about HERE, I have not been eating or working out like I should!

It's time to kick it into high gear around here!

This week I am planning to get back into my healthy eating and workout routine.

What about you, how have you been doing lately?

Leave me a comment!

Also, have you seen the newest Fit Bands in our shop?

What do you think?

These allow you to bring your keys/Fit Cards with you on your workouts!

And they are SO cute, I love the new summer styles!

The boys ended up getting me the blender that I wanted for Mother's Day so I am all set to make healthy fruit smoothies to curb that late afternoon stress snacking I like to do!

I'll let you know how it goes!

I did find a few more healthy recipes that I like:

Santa Fe Chicken
Creamy Chicken & Wild Rice

I am all about the crockpot these days, it is the only way I will cook chicken!

Remember I substitute all low-fat ingredients when I cook (using low-fat dairy and low-fat creamy soups, etc)

I also finally made these yummy brownie muffins and they were a hit!

For special occasions, serve them with low-fat ice cream and chocolate syrup!

Yum!

Happy Friday, friends!

Fit Fridays {linky party}: Droid App

Yay!!!

This is the first week in awhile that I have posted every single day as planned!

And by the way, I did want to post last Thursday and Friday but blogger was down! :(

I am SO excited to report that I have lost 12 lbs over the last several weeks!!

I am not dieting or doing any kind of strenuous workouts, I am simply changing my lifestyle.

Remember I told you that I am cooking healthier meals (lower fat, baked instead of fried, non-dairy or low-fat dairy, olive oil instead of butter, wheat instead of white, fruits/veggies, etc) and I am trying to get in a workout 5 days a week (5 days of cardio and 3 days with added strength-training) although I must admit I have not been getting in very many workouts the last few weeks, I need to get back into my routine!

Doing a lifestyle change means the weight will come off slower than a crash diet BUT it will also stay off!!!

How are you doing with your physical and spiritual fitness lately?

I have something that will help you with the spiritual fitness...and you can do it while you are getting in your physical fitness...

IF you have a droid!

You can download WOTP - Fit Cards {Droid App} HERE.

It includes our Character Counts Devotional Cards and even has a "read to me" option so that you can plug-in headphones and listen while you workout.

Coaches are downloading them to go through with their teams.

Parents are downloading them to go through with their kids.

We now have a FREE version that you can download if you do not mind pop-up ads...otherwise you can download the $0.99 version and be pop-up free!

Go HERE to download (or you can search WOTP in the android market on your phone).

Let me know what you think and spread the word to your droid friends!

{I would love to create a version for iphone...so if you know anyone who can create one for us, send them my way!}

Happy Friday Friends!

Fit Fridays {linky party}: Blog Hop!

In keeping with the spirit of Easter, today we are going to do a little blog "hopping."

First, "hop" on over HERE to This Little Piggy Went to the Gym for a great post on Food Choice Tips (which was linked-up to our Fit Fridays {linky party} last week)!

Be sure to leave a comment with which tips you are going to try to implement this week!

This week I am going to focus on making sure I only have red meat 2x. We are meat lovers and I have been working on finding more easy, healthy chicken recipes for us to eat---not a fish fan but want to steer away from the red meat some (not completely, too much love there).

Leave a little love to let them know you stopped by and that you appreciate what they are doing to promote a healthy lifestyle!

For those of you who do not know, this blog is hosted by another blog friend of mine (Dave), who happens to be the brother of Cat over at Cap Creations! While you are there, read his story---it is AMAZING!!!

Second, "hop" on over HERE to $5 Dinners for a great post on 5 Inexpensive Ways to Boost Nutrition in Your Daily Diet.

I am happy to report that we are currently doing 3 of the 5---next I plan to invest in a blender so I can make healthy fruit smoothies which are supposed to be great for curbing those late afternoon stress cravings (when it is not quite dinnertime, hubby is on the way home and kids have pushed me to the limit), which seem to run rampant around here!

By the way, the $5 Dinner Mom (Erin) happens to be my former collegiate volleyball trainer! She has a fantastic blog, a few cookbooks and has appeared on Rachael Ray, among others, to promote her healthy family meals that will cost you under $5 to feed the entire family!

Leave her some love while you are there!

Happy Hopping! :)

Fit Fridays {linky party}: By His Wounds

With today being Good Friday, I decided that I should focus on spiritual fitness instead of physical fitness.

My words cannot even begin to do justice to what Christ did on the cross for us 2000+ years ago, so I will simply leave you with this:

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. {Isaiah 53:5}

Fit Fridays {linky party}: Snacking Busters

Here are a few simple tips to help you control the snacking!

-Do not keep junk food in the house
-Replace your old snacks with healthy, fresh, low-fat choices
-When the cravings come, drink a bottle of water, take a walk, get out of the house or do something to distract you
-PRAY for strength!

Hope this helps!

Do you have any tips of your own? Link-up or leave a comment!

By the way, I tried these Spinach Lasagna Roll-ups from Carroll Creations this past week:

Yummy!!!

I used all low-fat cheeses and next time plan to substitute whole wheat pasta!

Even Big A liked it! :)

They will definitely be a regular meal at our house from now on!

Happy Friday, friends!

Fit Fridays {linky party}: Water

My quest for fitness is going well so far!!!

I weighed myself at the Y this morning and I am down 10 lbs, woohoo!!

Granted, I still have a ways to go but I am movin' in the right direction!

I have been sticking pretty closely to my workout routine plus the weather is finally warming up and the snow is gone so I am able to get out and ride my bike, walk the neighborhood, etc.

I am also doing well on my quest to change our eating habits---less fat, more fresh foods, etc.

Thanks to you and some of the lovely website/blogs you have directed me to, I am finding some new, healthy recipes that are easy enough for me to fix.

Oh and by the way, I found another great healthy recipe website that might be of interest to you: www.cookinglight.com

Check it out!

And last--- I want to mention the importance of water. I have mentioned it on the blog before, but not on Fit Fridays!

Remember in all of your healthy living, you MUST drink AT LEAST 64 ounces of water each day...this is the minimum.

You need to build up to 124 ounces a day!

Yes I know, ALOT but there are alot of ways to help you do this:

1. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and refill it as soon as it is empty.

2. Mix Crystal Light teas and other flavors in it if you have to.

3. Eat alot of soups, fruits and veggies which are high in water.

4. Drink alot of juices but make sure they are 100% juice, no sugar.

5. Cut back on other drinks especially sodas.

Of course we have a fabulous product in our shop that will help you get your daily intake of water...

Our WOTP waterbottles!!!

Which now come in a sleek, silver for men (or women who are not into pink)!

They hold 32 ounces of water, are easy to hold, have a pop up spout which is easier to drink from and enables you to drink more water, faster.

And even a freezer stick that you can take out, freeze and put back in when you take your bottle to go!

Go HERE to buy one---they make great gifts too!

As always, link-up or leave comments of things that "work for you" fitness-wise!

Happy Friday, friends!

Fit Fridays {linky party}: Recipe Links

It is nice to finally be back into a fitness routine after battling the flu, recovering from the flu and then battling a cold---SO ready for spring/summer!!!

Here is the schedule I am going to try to stick with...

Monday: meet Big A at the Y around 11:30am---he plays basketball with the guys while I do at least 1 hour of cardio plus weights. Then we take the boys swimming in the nice pool.

Tuesday: at least 1 hour of cardio at the Y

Wednesday: meet the girls at the Y for an interval/circuit-training class (alternate cardio/strength stations)

Thursday: at least 1 hour of cardio at the Y

Friday: Big A and I will take the boys to open gymnastics and then meet our friends at the Y around 11:30---guys play basketball while we girls do at least 1 hour of cardio plus weights.

Saturday-Sunday: attend Little A's soccer games, play baseball with Little A, walk/ride the neighborhood as the weather gets nice, go to baseball games

And as I mentioned last week, I am also trying to overhaul our eating---lower fat, less dairy, less gluten, less soda, less eating-out, more water, more fruits and veggies, more organic, more fresh foods, more eating at home and overall well-balanced meals.

As a result of our linky parties and in talking with friends, I have discovered a few websites that are great for cooking/meal-planning that may be of interest to you.

Some of them are healthy sites (or have a healthy page) and some not-so healthy but all of them are excellent places for you to start finding help with cooking, couponing, meal-planning, grocery shopping, etc---and you can always adjust the not-so healthy recipes and make them healthier (ie. baking instead of frying, using low-fat ingredients, using fresher/organic ingredients, etc).

Anything is better than eating-out, eating fast-food on the run or filling the grocery cart full of things that look good!

Check out these sites and let me know what you think:

Some of them I have mentioned before and some are new to me but come highly recommended!

Also, please leave comments or link-up with any fitness routines or recipes/recipe blogs that work for you!

I am always looking for new ideas---especially if they are easy and healthy!

Fit Fridays {linky party}: Healthy Recipes

As you know, I completed my goal of 100 eliptical miles in February!! Yipee!

And as soon as I got back into a "normal" workout routine again, we all came down with the death flu, as I so lovingly call it!

We took it easy this week and I was planning to return to the Y today but I woke up with a little cold so I am postponing my return to fitness until next week!

This will be my new schedule---

Monday-Friday: At least 5 miles on the eliptical
Monday/Wednesday/Friday: Strength-training routine
Saturday/Sunday: walk/ride the neighborhood
***On certain Wednesdays I will be substituting a circuit-training class at the Y that combines cardio and strength-training.

Now, what I really want to talk about today is healthy recipes!

I am really trying to overhaul our eating around here---my goal is to provide healthy, low-fat, fresh, organic meals and snacks for my family but I need your help!

I have one recipe blog that I love, that I have shared with you before.

It is called Carroll Creations and I love that all of the recipes are delicious yet healthy and that she tells you exactly what you need, how to make it and even gives you a picture of what it is supposed to look like!

Check it out HERE.

I can't wait to try her spinach lasagna rolls, yummy!

Now, I really need you to share any favorite recipes or recipe website/blogs that you love so I can continue to add to my list of healthy recipes that I can make!

I can always adjust the recipes to make them low-fat and healthier so don't hesitate to share any recipes and websites even if you do not think that they are necessarily healthy.

One other thing I am trying to do is really cut back on our dairy intake to help with Little A's and my digestive problems so if you have any good dairy-free recipes or recipes with little dairy or recipes that are made with a dairy substitute, PLEASE share them with me!!

If you have any gluten-free recipes, I would not mind hearing about those as well---we would like to cut back on our gluten intake too but I have not found anything gluten-free that tastes anywhere near decent!

Before I go, I just wanted to let you know that the winner of our {Name that Band} FB Contest is Spring Fling by BenMelanie Hartman!!

Thanks to everyone who participated!! It was alot of fun!

Stay tuned for our MVP {Most Valuable Photo} Contest coming to our FB page very soon!

Go ahead and start taking/collecting sports-related pictures of your kiddos and check back soon for contest details!

Happy Friday, friends!

Fit Fridays {linky party}: 100 MILES

So, when I set my goal of 100 eliptical miles for Fit for February, I did not take into consideration our travels or the fact that February only has 28 days!

Needless to say---it was tough BUT I did it!!!

If you follow us on FB or twitter you witnessed a little bit of the drive and determination I had as an athlete---one of the main reasons for my success!

I set my goal high and I was not gonna stop until I reached it and by the grace of God, and your prayers, I did 100 miles on the eliptical in February!

A BIG thank you to all of you who prayed for me, those who promoted this worthy cause and especially to those who donated money to help Bring Brady Home in honor of my efforts!

If you have not yet done so, PLEASE go HERE and make a donation in celebration of me achieving my goal!!

Anything you can give, no matter how small, will help this sweet family bring their precious son home!

If you are new around here, go HERE to find out why I had to get 100 miles in February and why this family needs all the immediate help they can get!

And by the way---just because February is over, we must not stop helping this family!

You may at anytime pray for them, promote their story and make a donation so keep spreading the word!

In fact, Cap Creations is putting together a fantastic prize package to help Bring Brady Home!!

Go HERE to see some of the fabulous prizes and make plans to buy a raffle ticket!

And as always, spread the word!!

On another note---have you seen the new Fit Bands {Wristlet Keychains} in our shop?!!?

Contest Band

Feathered Friends

Flower Power

Turquoise Splash

Banana Split

Our Fit Bands are great for fitness-types because you can use them to bring your keys and Fit Cards {prayer, scripture-memory and devotional cards} with you when you walk/jog the neighborhood or go to the gym!

I even clip a little zippered pouch to mine so I can carry my id, chapstick, etc with me too!

{By the way, the reason the 1st Fit Band is named "Contest Band" is because we are going to have a contest to name this band so stay tuned for details soon!}

2. Meet another one of our happy customers!

This is my brand new, dear friend Kenda! She was one of the fabulous vendors at the Rhea Lana's of Southwest DFW Children's Consignment Sale with me last week! She bought a few of our products herself and here she is sporting one of our WOTP workout t-shirts---isn't she cute??

Kenda is currently fighting breast cancer and I am asking you to join me in praying for her complete healing! I was able to give her a set of our devotional cards to minister to her during this time.

Fit Fridays {linky party}: Cardio for a Cause

I am SO excited to tell you what I have been doing for my workouts this past week!

My friend Cat of Cap Creations introduced me to a fantastic cause a few days ago.

There is a family who is raising money to adopt a little boy named Brady from Eastern Europe.

Brady has down syndrome and was abandoned at birth as most children with disabilities are in Eastern Europe and other parts of the world.

Apparently it is standard procedure that these children will be transferred from their orphanage to a full blown mental institution sometime between 4 and 6 years old where they will suffer and sometimes die due to the conditions.

You can read more about Brady and the Hartman family HERE.

My heart was immediately drawn to this family.

Only a few days before, we received a comment on the WOTP blog that said the following---

This is so awesome! My friend just found your site and sent the link to me. We are just starting our adoption process to adopt a little girl with down syndrome from eastern europe and I would love to be on your list and get involved with this....how do I do that?

I thought the timing was interesting and I truly think these families are angels of God for adopting these precious children who need to be apart of a loving home, as any child does.

I was trying to figure out how to help this family when Cat sent me the link to a few of the fundraisers the Hartmans are doing to bring Brady home!

Cat said that one of them sounded right up my alley and she was right!

It is called Fit for February and you can read more about it HERE.

Basically, I have committed to doing the elliptical everyday in February to help this family raise money to bring Brady home!

I average 3 miles a day on the elliptical and my goal is to do 100 miles this month, which means I will have to do more than 3 miles somedays!

By the end of today I will have done {12} miles with {88} to go!!

It is going to be tough and I need your help!

Here are the ways that you can help me---

-pray for me that I will stick to my commitment---that each day I will make it fit with my schedule, that I will feed my body properly and that I will get the rest that I need to help me keep going

-make a pledge per mile or just a lump sum and donate it through the chip-in (Donate) button on the Hartman's blog Happy Hartman Farm

-pray for Brady and this family

-blog, facebook and tweet about this cause and my goal so that other people can help out too

-do the Fit for February Challenge yourself and get pledges of your own

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave me a comment on this blog or on the WOTP Facebook or twitter page to let me know how you will be supporting me in this challenge!

I will NEED your encouragement!

And as always, now it is your turn!

Link-up or leave comments of things that "work for you" fitness-wise.

Let us know what you are doing for physical/spiritual fitness each week or tell us what diets, workouts, Y classes, etc that you love!

You have until Thursday 2/10/11 @MIDNIGHT (CST) to link-up or leave comments on this post and then next Friday we will have a new Fit Friday {linky party} that you can join!

Don't forget to send me pictures of you (or anyone you know) using our products---fit bands, fit cards, headbands, wristlets, lanyards, t-shirts, waterbottles, bling shoes, etc so I can post them here on the blog on Fridays!

You can email your pictures to worthyoftheprize@yahoo.com.

Happy Friday Friends!!
